3/31/2021 10:18:00 PM

Box Score ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. – 12 second-half turnovers and a 39-13 deficit in second-chance points would lead to a 124-99 road defeat for the Cloud County Community College men's basketball team at number-15 nationally ranked Cowley County Community College inside of W.S. Scott Auditorium in Arkansas City, Kansas on Wednesday, March 31st.

The loss concludes the 2020-21 regular season for the T-Birds who fall to 6-16 overall and 4-16 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference East Division while Cowley improves to 17-4 overall and 17-2 in the KJCCC East while remaining in the hunt for a share of the KJCCC East Division Title.

After jumping out to a quick 8-0 lead on a stunned Tiger squad, Cloud County would see Cowley come back in the first half to put up 70 points in the opening 20 minutes thanks in part to a 12-of-29 (41.4 percent) performance from beyond the arc in the first half. Cloud County would wind up shooting over 50 percent (20-of-38, 52.6 percent) from the field in the first half, but manage to hit just four triples and go 13-of-18 (72.2 percent) from the charity stripe in the opening period and face a 70-57 deficit heading into the locker room at halftime.

The frenetic pace would wind up slowing down in the second half as neither team would be able to match their first-half output despite both teams looking to push the tempo and get out in transition. Cloud County would see Cowley take a 102-75 lead at the second half media timeout with just over eight minutes remaining as the T-Birds would never be able to recover and wind up allowing a season-high in points.

In addition to the deficit in second-chance points, CCCC would also face a 64-38 rebounding deficit despite outscoring Cowley 38-34 in points in the paint. The Tigers would also hold a 32-24 advantage in points from bench players while the T-Birds would shoot a season-high 38 free throws and connect on 26 (68.4 percent).

Setting a career-high in points would be sophomore David Acosta with 25 points to go along with eight rebounds and four blocks with the totals coming in just 19 minutes of action. Five different players for Cloud County would reach double-figures including Zavien Smith who had 18 points and five assists while Ibrahim Drame had 12 points and four rebounds off the bench. Cowley would get a game-high 30 from guard Moun'tae Edmundson as the Tigers would also have Dalen Ridgnal score 28 as four players cracked double-digits.
