Box Score CHANUTE, Kan. – Playing in their fourth five-set match of the year, the Cloud County Community College volleyball team would see missed opportunities late in sets be costly in a 25-18, 24-26, 28-30, 25-20, and 7-15 road loss to Neosho County Community College inside of Panther Gymnasium in Chanute, Kansas on Thursday, March 18th.
Seeing a four-match win streak snapped, Cloud County falls to 11-8 overall and 9-8 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference while the Panthers pick up their 11th win of the year to improve to 11-6 overall and 10-5 in the KJCCC to stay in the top three of the Jayhawk standings.
The T-Birds would have four players reach the double-digit kill mark as sophomore
Geraldyn Palacios would lead CCCC with 14 kills on 39 attacks for a.256 attack percentage while the trio of
Lakyn Tenbrink,
Delaney Herold, and
Lizzy Pfortmiller all finished with 12 kills each. Palacios would also add six total blocks in the match including Cloud County's only solo block of the evening while also recording a service ace in three of the five sets.
Sophomore
Jaycee Burghart would record 53 of Cloud County's 54 set assists on the night while also adding two of CCCC's seven service aces as the McPherson, Kansas native would assist on 14 kills in both the first and third sets. Cloud County would also have sophomore
Riley Bontrager lead the T-Birds in digs for the match, finishing with 19 digs as three players would record at least 10 digs (Burghart and
Kylie Fuller).
What's Next?
Cloud County's final home match of the year will come on Monday, March 22nd as the T-Birds will host Fort Scott in what is shaping up to be a crucial KJCCC match for seeding purposes for postseason play. FSCC currently sits in fifth in the KJCCC Division II standings, right ahead of CCCC who is in sixth just one-half game back of the Greyhounds. In their earlier match this season, Fort Scott would take a 3-0 decision with all three sets being decided by only two points.
