OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Finishing off a week that featured three nationally-ranked opponents in the span of five days, the Cloud County Community College volleyball team would fall in straight sets on the road to number-seven Johnson County Community College inside the JCCC Gymnasium on Saturday, February 6th.

Through two weeks of the season, Cloud County now sits at 2-3 overall and 2-3 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference while the Cavaliers remained perfect on the season with a 5-0 mark and 4-0 record in the KJCCC.

After taking an early 5-3 lead in set one, Cloud County would give up an 8-1 run to the Cavaliers to fall into a 12-6 hole before eventually calling a timeout at 15-9. JCCC would keep their foot on the pedal throughout the first set as CCCC would be unable to get any closer and eventually falling by a score of 25-15.

The Cavaliers would continue to put pressure on the T-Birds in set two by scoring four of the first five points of the set, but Cloud County would respond with a 4-0 rally to tie the set up at 5-5. Johnson County would then manage to score three straight points to grab the lead as the Cavaliers would extend their lead to 15-9 to force a CCCC timeout. Out of the timeout, things would go from bad to worse for the T-Birds as Johnson County would double-up Cloud County at 20-10 and push forward for a 25-14 set two victory.

JCCC would then jump out to a 6-3 lead in the third set, but CCCC would have a response by scoring four of the next six points to pull within a point at 8-7. The score would stay tight for the next several points as Cloud County would tie the set up at nine-all, 10-all, 11-all, and again at 12-all. The final tie of the set would come at 16-16 as Johnson County would finally manage to build some breathing room by using a 4-0 run to go up 20-16 and force a T-Bird timeout late in the set. The timeout would end the rally for JCCC momentarily as Cloud County would go on to score the first point out of the break before ending the match by scoring five of the last six to win 25-18 and remain undefeated.  

Limited to just 26 total kills in the match, the T-Birds would be led by Lizzy Pfortmiller who had seven kills and one solo block while Linnea Mowry had a team-best 10 digs. Jaycee Burghart would record 24 total set assists while Delaney Herold had three service aces in the match.

What's Next?

Cloud County will look to make the of being back inside Arley Bryant Gymnasium on Monday, February 8th as the T-Birds will host Hesston College in KJCCC action at 6:30 PM. The match will be the first this season in which CCCC fans will be allowed to watch the Cloud County volleyball team as a total of 132 CCCC boosters, parents of student-athletes, faculty/staff, and students will be allowed into the match against the Larks.
