CONCORDIA, Kan. – The Cloud County Community College volleyball team will begin NJCAA Region VI postseason tournament play as the number seven seed when they travel to Great Bend, Kansas to take on second-seeded Barton County Community College at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, November 2nd.
Finishing the regular season with a 17-15 overall record, the T-Birds will be taking on a Cougar squad that is 23-10 overall and winners of four-straight matches while posting an 8-1 record at home inside the Kirkman Activity Center. In previous matches between CCCC and BCCC this year, Barton would take a 3-0 decision in Concordia on August 25th in what would be the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference opener for both teams before earning a four-set home win over Cloud County on September 29th.
Tuesday's match will be the first time that CCCC has competed in the postseason at the NJCAA Division I level since the 2016 season that saw the T-Birds drop a 3-0 decision to Barton to end their season. Cloud County last won a postseason tournament game during the 2015 campaign with a 3-0 sweep of the Cougars to advance to the NJCAA Region VI Tournament semifinals where the season would conclude with a 3-0 neutral-site loss to Seward County Community College.
Barton is the defending NJCAA Region VI Tournament Champions after going 3-0 in the 2020 edition of the tournament including a five-set road victory over Seward County to claim the automatic berth into the 2020 NJCAA Division I National Tournament that saw the Cougars drop a pair of four-set matches to Snow College and Northeastern Junior College.
In other Region VI Tournament quarterfinal matches scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, number-four nationally ranked and KJCCC West regular-season champion Butler will host eighth-seeded Pratt Community College on Tuesday at 6:30 PM while the remaining two matches will be played on Wednesday, November 3rd. The number four vs number five matchup will feature Dodge City playing host to Colby Community College at 6:30 PM while third-seeded Seward County will host Hutchinson in Liberal, Kansas at 6:30 PM.
Winners of the four quarterfinal matches will meet up in El Dorado on the campus of Butler beginning on Friday, November 5th with the winner of Butler and Pratt taking on the winner of Dodge City and Colby at 5 PM in the first semifinal. The second semifinal match will feature the remaining two teams between Barton, Cloud County, Seward County, and Hutchinson with the match scheduled for 40 minutes after the conclusion of the first match. Saturday will be the NJCAA Region VI Tournament Championship match with first serve slated for 1 PM as the winner will earn the Region VI Automatic berth to the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas November 18-20.
