Box Score CONCORDIA, Kan. – Utilizing a big size advantage and fast tempo, the Cloud County Community College men's basketball team cruised to a 105-45 home victory over the Bethany College JV team to close out non-conference action inside of Arley Bryant Gymnasium on Saturday, January 23rd.
The T-Birds move to 2-0 with the victory as CCCC closes out their week and non-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference slate unbeaten as both wins would come by 60-point margins.
It would be all T-Birds from the start as Cloud County would score the first seven points of the game and jump out to an 11-2 lead in the opening four minutes of the contest. Back-to-back dunks from sophomore David Acosta would extend the lead for CCCC to 17-5 as the score would find its way to 22-11 at the first half media timeout with 9:41 left in the first half.
Cloud County would turn things up a notch in the back end of the opening period as the lead would get as high as 24 following an Acosta dunk with 2:41 left in the half before seeing the Swedes manage to end the first 20 minutes by scoring nine of the final 13 points to put make it a 44-25 game at the break.
Six straight points courtesy of layups to begin the second half would allow Cloud County to double up Bethany JV 50-25 in the opening 78 seconds of the period as things would begin to get out of hand early in the half. The T-Birds would then never see their lead dip below the 20-point mark for the remainder of the game as CCCC would shoot 59.1 percent from the floor in the final period while allowing just eight made field goals to the Swedes.
For the contest, Cloud County would shoot 58.2 percent on 46-of-79 shooting while also going eight-for-11 (72.7%) from the charity stripe. All 36 fast break points scored in the game would come courtesy of Cloud County as the T-Birds would also use a 78-22 advantage in points in the paint.
Setting a new career-high in both points and rebounds, Acosta would finish the game with 16 points and 11 rebounds while also adding two blocks and going a perfect eight-for-eight from the field. Doumbia would lead the T-Birds in points for a second-straight contest, pouring in 21 points and grabbing seven boards, and assisting on three buckets for Cloud County. Bethany JV would wind up having two players reach double-figures, with Ormonte Anderson scoring 18 while Stevie Bryant added 13 in the contest.
What's Next?
Things get turned up a notch come Wednesday, January 27th as Cloud County will play host to Northwest Kansas Technical College in their KJCCC opener at 8 p.m. The Mavericks will be opening their season on Wednesday night in Concordia, and are coming off a 4-24 campaign a year ago which included a 2-19 mark in KJCCC play. Last year's contest between CCCC and NWKT saw the T-Birds come away with a 68-64 overtime victory in Concordia on January 4th.
