NJCAA Releases Academic Teams of Year, All-Academic Award Winners

CHARLOTTE, NC – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has released the 2019-2020 NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year and NJCAA All-Academic honorees to honor both teams and individuals for excellence in the classroom.

A total of nine Cloud County Community College athletic teams finished the year with a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher to earn Academic Teams of the Year honors while a total of 88 student-athletes earned NJCAA All-Academic honors for completing the year with a GPA of 3.60 or higher. Of the 88 student-athletes earning the distinction, 26 earned First-Team NJCAA All-Academic for finishing the year with a 4.0 GPA.

Leading the way in team GPA was the T-Bird softball team with a 3.60 GPA with the CCCC Baseball team coming in with the second-highest GPA within the athletic department with a 3.58 GPA. The 3.58 GPA by the T-Bird baseball team was the fourth-best Grade Point Average among all NJCAA Baseball teams this past year while the Cloud County softball team had the 16th highest GPA among softball teams. Of the nine CCCC teams to earn Academic Teams of the Year distinction, five finished with a GPA that ranked within the top 10 of their respective sport while all nine teams had a team GPA of at least 3.26. 2019-2020 NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year

Baseball – 3.58 GPA (4th Best among all Baseball Teams)

Women's Basketball – 3.53 GPA (11th among all Women's Basketball Teams)

Women's Cross Country – 3.26 GPA (33rd among all Women's Cross Country Teams)

Women's Indoor Track – 3.36 GPA (5th among all Women's Indoor Track Teams)

Women's Outdoor Track – 3.36 GPA (5th among all Women's Outdoor Track Teams)

Men's Soccer – 3.45 GPA (5th among all Men's Soccer Teams)

Women's Soccer – 3.56 GPA (10th among all Women's Soccer Teams)

Softball – 3.60 GPA (16th among all Softball Teams)

Volleyball – 3.53 GPA (23rd among all Volleyball Teams)

In addition to having 26 student-athletes earn First-Team NJCAA All-Academic Honors, the T-Birds would also see 26 student-athletes earn Second-Team NJCAA All-Academic Honors for finishing the year with a GPA of 3.80-3.99 while an additional 36 student-athletes earned Third-Team NJCAA All-Academic for finishing with GPA's of 3.60-3.79. The T-Bird baseball team would lead all CCCC teams with 20 total honorees earning All-Academic status, with softball having 12 student athletes earn the honor and women's basketball with seven.
