Cloud County falls 80-58 on the road to Coffeyville

Box Score

COFFEYVILLE, Kansas — A slow start on the offensive end plagued the Cloud County Community College men's basketball team Wednesday night in its 80-58 road loss to Coffeyville Community College.

The T-Birds (15-7 overall, 11-7 KJCCC) fell behind 16-1 through the game's first 9 minutes and 55 seconds, getting their first field goal to drop with 10:05 remaining in the first half on a mid-range jumper from redshirt freshman, Ramion Burt Jr.

Cloud County's defense kept it in the game, allowing the T-Birds to climb back within eight points at the 7:45 mark on a 3-pointer by freshman Solomon Finley. But the Red Ravens (14-8 overall, 10-8 KJCCC), fresh off their 86-85 upset of previously undefeated and No. 2 ranked Hutchinson, were able to use their fast start to keep Cloud County at bay the rest of the way.

Turnovers were the main culprit for the T-Birds on Wednesday as they had 29 for the game, aiding to a 28-6 points off turnovers advantage for the Red Ravens.

Finley and Burt Jr. played great minutes off the bench as Finley scored a career-high 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting. Burt Jr. flirted with a double-double, finishing with team highs in points (12) and rebounds (8) in his 18 minutes.

Sophomore shooting guard Deon Lyle was the third T-Bird in double-figures with 10 points.

Up next for Cloud County will be its Homecoming game against Neosho County (7-15 overall, 4-14 KJCCC) at 8 p.m. on Saturday.

The T-Birds will be honoring the 1979-80 women and men's basketball teams that evening as the two former Region VI championship teams will be inducted into the Cloud County Athletics Hall of Fame.
