Box Score HUTCHINSON, Kansas — The Cloud County Community College volleyball team fell in straight sets (25-15, 25-16 and 25-22) Wednesday on the road in Hutchinson in the third match of a tough seven-match road swing.
Cloud County (4-17 overall, 1-9 KJCCC), as it has much of the 2017 season, showed positive spurts throughout the evening as it has 12 kills spread between five different players in the first set, and played toe-to-toe with the formerly ranked Blue Dragons (17-9 overall, 8-2 KJCC) in Set Three.
Sophomore hitters Drew Mann and Irem Bat led the way offensively with six kills apiece for the T-Birds, while fellow sophomore Katelyn Ruth added four kills and freshman Janessa Zenger tallied three kills.
Unfortunately for the T-Birds, Hutchinson took advantage of an uncharacteristic night at the net for Cloud County, which finish with just one solo block and two block assists.
Freshman libero Britt Michaelis highlighted the defensive efforts with a team-high 18 digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Brooke Baird joined her in double-figures with 10 digs.
Cloud County will take a break from KJCCC action when it continues its road trip at 6:30 p.m. on Friday against Hesston College.
