Box Score GARDEN CITY, Kansas- Staring at an 18-8 deficit in the fourth set, already down 2-1, the Cloud County Community College volleyball team was on the ropes against a Garden City Community College team that entered Monday night's contest on a nine-match losing streak.
Rather than fold, the T-Birds came roaring back to win the fourth set 25-23 and rode that wave of momentum en route to a stunning five-set victory: 24-26, 25-23, 9-25, 25-23 and 15-8.
Freshman middle Elizabeth Nobert led the charge for Cloud County (9-8 overall, 3-2 KJCCC) as she tallied six of her team-high 17 kills in the pivotal fourth set. Norbert continued to haunt the Broncbusters (3-16 overall, 1-6 KJCCC) in the fifth set, adding three more kills to her total on three attacks.
Aiding Norbert in the offensive effort were freshman Irem Bat and redshirt freshman Kylie McKinney as the duo added nine kills and eight kills, respectively.
Sophomore Cara Flach shined with a 42 assists, while sophomore Bailey Lewis notched a team-high 18 digs. Fellow sophomore Cheyanne Hileman paced the T-Birds with three aces, as well.
With the win, the T-Birds snapped a mini two-match losing streak and moved back above .500 for the season at 9-8 overall. They will look to keep the momentum going Wednesday when they return home to face Barton Community College. The match is schedule for 6:30 p.m.
