Box Score 2 Pratt, KS- It is not quite March yet but it is certainly starting to feel like it. For the second straight year the Cloud County men went on the road in the first round of the Region VI playoffs and pulled the upset. This time Cloud County was the #15 seed and knocked off the #2 seed Pratt 80-76.
Deon Lyle picked a good time for a career night as the Freshman from Norton, KS went off for 25 points. He hit 8-10 from three and led the T-Birds past the Beavers. He had 19 of his 25 in the first half.
Lyle came into the night averaging 2.8 points per game and had scored just three points in the previous nine games combined. His previous career high was 12 points. It was Lyle who provided the spark for Cloud to survive and advance to the quarterfinals on Sunday night in Hartman Arena.
Cloud drained 13 threes on the night and shot 51.9% overall from the field. It was their best shooting performance since November 21st when they beat Pure Prep Academy and shot 53% from the field.
Cloud also shot 81.3% from the free throw line in the win. They hit 13-16 from the charity stripe.
Aamahne Santos had 17 points and 4 assists. He sunk two free throws with just 8 seconds to play to seal it for Cloud County.
Devonte Dixon had 12 points and 7 rebounds.
With the win Cloud advances to the quarterfinals of the Region VI tournament. They will play #7 Butler Community College at 7:00 pm in Hartman Arena in Park City, KS. Just eight teams remain alive with a bid to the NJCAA National Tournament at stake.
