Dixon's Big Night Not Enough in Loss at Dodge City

Dodge City, KS- The Cloud County Thunderbird men came up short in an 85-73 loss at Dodge City Monday night.

Cloud County got a career night from Devonte Dixon. Dixon, a freshman from Medford, NY, drilled all six of his three point attempts on the night in route to his game high 25 points. After a sluggish start to his season Dixon has averaged 12.9 points per game in his last seven contests and has hit 18-36 (50%) from deep during that time period. 

Cloud had a tall task on Wednesday night as they traveled back to southwest Kansas after playing in Garden City on Saturday night. The T-Birds squared off with a talented Conquistadors team thatr is now 17-6, and 8-4 in league play.

The T-Birds jumped out and grabbed a quick 6-0 lead. Aamahne Santos nailed a three with 14:30 to play in the first half to put Cloud up 16-15. From there, Dodge slowly began to pull away. Dixon did all he could, but Dodge carried a 38-34 lead into halftime. 

Dodge steadily increased their lead in the second half despite several attempts from the T-Birds to make a run. The Conqs held the Thunderbirds off as they won by a final of 85-73. 

Dixon led all scorers with 25 points. Duby Maduegbunam scored 15 and grabbed five rebounds. Aamahne Santos had 13 points and 8 assists. 

Cloud hit a season high 12 three point shots. They were 12-24 (50%) from deep on the night. However, despite the efficient three point shooting, the T-Birds shot just 39% overall.

Colby will come to town for a matchup with the Thunderbirds in Arley Bryant Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
