HILLSBORO, Missouri — The Cloud County Community College volleyball team wrapped up the Jefferson College Halloween Classic on Saturday, falling in straight sets to No. 11 Jefferson College and losing a five-set heartbreaker to John A. Logan College.

The daunting two-day tournament, playing against some of the country's best NJCAA teams, served its purpose for the T-Birds (11-18 overall, 5-8 KJCCC), who are set to play three straight home matches to conclude the KJCCC regular season, starting at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Cloud County kicked off Saturday's action against the tournament hosts, falling 25-10, 25-12 and 25-20 to the No. 11 ranked Grizzlies.

Freshman outside hitter Irem Bat, who's had a strong tournament and led the T-Birds in kills in each of Friday's matches, had a team-high seven kills versus Jefferson College. Redshirt freshman Drew Mann and freshman Elizabeth Nobert followed close behind with six kills apiece.

Defensively, the T-Birds struggled to pressure the Grizzlies at the front of the net as Cloud County finished with just one block.

Cloud would play arguably its best match of the tournament in its final match, rallying from a two-set deficit to force a fifth set against John A. Logan College. Unfortunately for the T-Birds, they ran out of steam in the fifth set en route to a 23-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-22 and 5-15 loss.

Freshman outside hitter Katelyn Ruth tallied a team-high 10 kills to pace what was a balanced offensive attack. Mann and Nobert each finished with nine kills, while sophomore outside hitter Cara Flach, who has served primarily as the T-Birds setter, chipped in eight kills, 23 assists, three aces and three solo blocks.

Cloud County served extremely well against John A. College as it finished with 12 aces, led by sophomore Bailey Lewis with four. The 12 aces were the second most the T-Birds have had in a match this season, topped by the 13 aces they had against Hesston College back on Sept. 14.

Defensively, the T-Birds were solid as they finished with 11 total blocks. Redshirt freshman Kylie McKinney added a team-high 11 digs.

Cloud County will look to build off the weekend's positives when it returns home Monday to host Hutchinson Community College. The T-Birds and Blue Dragons are set to get underway at 6:30 p.m. inside Arley Bryant Gymnasium.
