Box Score 2 Not much went right for the Cloud County Thunderbirds on Wednesday night. The T-Birds struggled from the field while Coffeyville made shots all night long. Cloud also lost their leading scorer and reigning Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week Demonte Ojinnaka to an ankle injury just 2 minutes into the game.
Coffeyville mauled the T-Birds early hitting their first three attempts from deep and jumping out to a 21-5 lead. The T-Birds sputtered with Ojinnaka out and could not get back into the game. Cloud trailed Coffeyville 53-34 at half.
The T-Birds found other sources of offense in the second half and tried to claw back in it but could not get any closer than 16. Cloud remained within 20 until late when Coffeyville opened it up winning by a score of 96-70. Freshman Rashun Allen scored all 16 of his season high points in the second half. Cloud also got 6 second half points from Deon Lyle.
Allen led the T-Birds in scoring with 16. Henry Cornelious had 13 points and 5 rebounds. Aamahne Santos had 8 points and 7 assists. Sophomore Jesse Patrick added 7 points and 6 rebounds.
Cloud struggled from the field all night shooting just 34%. The T-Birds struggled to finish around the basket going just 13-38 (34%) from inside the three point line on the night. The Ravens out-rebounded the T-Birds 44-32.
Coffeyville connected on ten threes and shot 57%. They got a career night from Jovan Barksdale who poured in 30 points. University of Oklahoma commit Darrion Strong had 15.
The T-Birds are now 8-9 overall and 1-5 in league play. They will travel to Iola on Saturday for an afternoon matchup with Allen County.
