T-Birds Go 2-1 at Moberly Classic

The Cloud County Thunderbird Basketball team pushed their overall record to 3-1 over the weekend. Cloud traveled to Moberly, Missouri to participate in the Vulcan Systems Classic at Moberly Area Community College. The T-Birds went 2-1 on the weekend.

Cloud County 62 Kennedy King 60

The T-Birds started off the weekend with a matchup against Kennedy King College out of Chicago, Illinois. The T-Birds trailed at half time by the score of 28-24. Cloud came from behind though to knock of Kennedy King by the score of 62-60.

Sophomore Demonte Ojinnaka led the way for the T-Birds with 18. Devonte Dixon added nine.

Cloud County 59 #17 Moberly 62

Friday night Cloud played in the feature game against tournament host, Moberly Area Community College. Moberly was ranked #17 in NJCAA Division 1 in the preaseason poll. The T-Birds jumped out to an early lead and remained in charge until the final minute. Cloud led by as many as 11 in the second half before Moberly took the lead for good in the final minute. Mobery won by 62-59

Once again it was Ojinnaka that led the Thunderbirds with 18 points. Dixon had 10 and freshman point guard Aamahne Santos added 9.

Cloud County 90 North American 69

Cloud took on North American University in the final game of the classic on Saturday. The T-Birds rolled over the the Stallions by the score of 90-69.

Ojinnaka paced the Thunderbirds again with 20. The sophomore from Silver Spring, MD averaged 18.7 points per game on the tournament. Santos chipped in with 15. Freshmen Alex Martin and Devonte Dixon both had 9.

Cloud, 3-1, will now be off until next Friday November 13, as they travel to Council Bluffs for the Iowa Western Reiver Classic. The T-Birds will play two games, both against ranked opponents. Friday they will play NJCAA D2 #8 Des Moines Area Community College and Saturday they will play NJCAA D1 #23 Iowa Western.
