Box Score For just the second time this season the Cloud County Volleyball team went down in straight sets. Iowa Western came into the game ranked as the #4 team in NJCAA D1 Volleyball and handed the T-Birds their ninth loss on the season. The Reivers won the match 25-22, 25-9, 25-18.
The first set was the most competitive of the night. Cloud dug themselves an early hole but battled back to tie the match at 12. The T-Birds would lead the #4 Reivers 16-15 before Iowa Western went on a 5-1 run to take control of the game, eventually winning 25-22.
Cloud County had a tough time capturing momentum in the second set after grabbing an early lead. Trailing 4-3, Iowa Western used a 22-5 run to close out the second set and take a 2-0 lead with a 25-9 victory.
Despite trailing 0-2 in the match the Thunderbirds rallied early in the 3rd and jumped out to an 8-3 lead. Iowa Western Coach Alicia Williams quickly called a timeout and stopped the T-Bird momentum. The Reivers would then work back and tie the game at 12. From there it was all Reivers as they pulled away and capped the sweep with a 25-18 win.
Cloud was led by Gaby da Silva with 11 kills on the night. Da Silva leads the Thunderbirds on the season with 288 kills.
Cloud falls to 20-9 on the season. Iowa Western improves to 29-5. The T-Birds will travel to Columbus, Nebraska on Friday October 23rd for another non-conference matchup this week against Central Community College. The Raiders are currently 24-11.
