Box Score Seeking revenge for an early season home loss to the Colby Trojans, the Cloud County Thunderbirds refused to lose Monday night in Colby. Three of the four sets were decided by just two points, but it was Cloud County that came out on top this time winning the match against the Trojans 3-1.
The Thunderbirds won the match with scores of 26-24, 23-25, 26-24, and 25-16. It was the T-Birds 9th straight victory and pushed their overall record to 19-7. Cloud is now 9-3 in Jayhawk West play and trails 2nd place Seward County by just one game. Hutchinson leads the West with a conference record of 9-1.
It was once again the sophomores leading the charge for the Thunderbirds. Laura Sudbeck rattled off her 5th straight match with double digit kills. She had 12 in the win over Colby. Sudbeck has turned it on as of late, averaging 3.61 kills per set over her last five matches. Sudbeck also had 8 digs and 4 blocks.
McKenna White had a solid all around night. She finished with 10 kills, 8 digs, 4 blocks and 4 aces. Cara Flach pitched in with 10 kills. Flach is averaging 2.42 kills per set in her last three games.
Cloud will be looking for their 20th win this Wednesday as they host Pratt. Cloud County has not had a 20 win season since going 20-13 in 2005. More impressively, 10 of the T-Birds 19 wins this season have come as true road victories. They are 10-1 in road contests this season.
