Maria Aikins

Maria Aikins begins her first season with the Cloud County Thunderbirds in 2026. A former All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC)/NJCAA Region 6 volleyball player, Aikins becomes Cloud County's 13th head volleyball coach in program history.

Aikins arrives at Cloud County following an exceptional tenure at Allen Community College, where she compiled a 64-32 overall record in three seasons as head coach and twice led the Red Devils to the Plains District A championship game.

Aikins helped Allen achieve an 18-13 overall record and a conference record of 5-4 in 2025. Allen broke into the NJCAA Division II Volleyball National Rankings following their five-set upset of fourth-ranked Johnson County Community College in September 2025. The Red Devils also recorded ranked wins over No. 19 Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and No. 21 Rock Valley Community College. Sophomore libero Audrey Peek earned All-KJCCC/NJCAA Region 6 Division II honors. Peek also earned KJCCC DII Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors on September 16, 2025, while freshman outside hitter Maria Santana was named KJCCC DII Volleyball Player of the Week that same week.

In 2024, Aikins guided the Red Devils to a 26-9 overall record, with eight of their nine losses coming against top ten teams in the country. In the same year, Allen Community College hosted its first home volleyball playoff match in 17 seasons, winning a four-set thriller over Highland Community College in the Plains District A Tournament, advancing the Red Devils to the tournament's championship game. Peek and sophomore defensive specialist Jolianys Roman achieved Second-Team All-KJCCC/Region 6 Division II honors, while sophomore setter Isabella Simione-Lagoa and freshman outside hitter Josie Weers were Third-Team All-KJCCC/Region 6 Division II selections. Peek was also recognized as the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week on October 30, 2024.

During the 2023 season, Aikins helped Allen finish with a 20-10 overall record and a 6-4 conference record. The Red Devils reached the Plains District A Championship game for the first time in 23 years following their four-set first round road win over Kansas City Kansas Community College.

Prior to Allen, Aikins was the head volleyball coach at Hutchinson High School in Hutchinson, Kansas. The Salthawks went 10-28 the year before her arrival, but Aikins quickly turned the program around, leading Hutchinson to three straight state tournament appearances, including a third place finish at the Kansas State High School Activities Association Class 5A State Volleyball Championship in 2022. During her time at Hutchinson, Aikins was named Kansas Volleyball Association Class 5A Coach of the Year and Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division I Coach of the Year.

The Salina, Kansas native was a middle hitter at Cloud County from 2010-2011. A Second-Team NJCAA Region 6 Division I selection and a Second-Team All-KJCCC honoree, Aikins later transferred to Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, where she earned All-Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) honors as a junior and senior. Aikins is Bethany's current school record holder for aces per set and total kills per season.

At Salina Central High School, Aikins was tabbed All-Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League in both volleyball and basketball and was recognized as the school's Female Tri-Athlete of the Year.
