Cloud County Wrestling Team Hits the Road for Dual at No. 14 Cowley College

The No. 22 ranked Cloud County Community College wrestling team travels to No. 14 Cowley College on Wednesday, January 29 for a 5 pm dual inside William S. Scott Gymnasium in Arkansas City, Kansas.

Last week, the T-Birds went 1-1 in a pair of Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference duals, losing to Neosho County Community College by a score of 24-21, before bouncing back to take down Colby in the nightcap, 27-17. Sophomore Macallistair Chambersranked No. 6 nationally in the 174 lbs. weight class, went 2-0 on the day. Chambers scored a second period fall over Maleek Ayonrinde of Neosho County, before taking down Cah'mari Johnson of Colby by a 7-3 decision. Freshman Jacob Vasquez won two matches by decision at 157 lbs. Vasquez picked up an 8-5 decision over Hunter Jennings of Neosho County, followed by a 3-0 decision over Alec Schmuck of Colby. Freshman Micah Cauthers, wrestling at 184 lbs., captured a 5-0 decision over Dylan Waggerman of Neosho County, before scoring a first period pin over Mouhamadou Sene of Colby. Nolan Bradley won by forfeit against Neosho County in his 125 lbs. bout. In his final match of the night, Bradley secured a 15-5 major decision over Luis Vasquez of Colby.

Cloud County possesses a 1-3 record in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference dual action. The T-Birds opened their conference dual schedule with a 45-6 loss to No. 9 Pratt, and a 45-9 loss to No. 13 Labette.

Cowley College is 2-2 in conference duals this season. The T-Birds and Tigers are tied at 2-2 in the all-time series, with Cloud County winning each of the last two matchups.

Following the dual on Wednesday, Cloud County will close out their regular season in a tri-dual on Tuesday, February 4 in Goodland, Kansas, beginning at 4 pm. The T-Birds will wrestle the host school, Fort Hays Tech Northwest, as well as Barton Community College in their final action before this year's NJCAA South-Central District Tournament.
