MIAMI, Okla. - Day one of the NJCAA Coaches Duals would see the number 11-ranked Cloud County Community College wrestling team tally a total of nine match wins but wind up falling to number 14-ranked Southwestern Oregon Community College and number 21-ranked Iowa Lakes Community College by scores of 27-24 and 28-22 at the Student Activities Center on the campus of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College on Friday, January 14th.

The two dual losses drops Cloud County's dual record on the year to 1-3 overall with the three dual losses coming by a total of 11 points. On the year, Cloud County is outscoring their opponents 107-90 in team points in dual competitions as they will have two more duals tomorrow in Miami, Oklahoma. A breakdown of each dual is listed below.

Against #14 Southwestern Oregon Dual Results
A dual opening win for the T-Birds would come courtesy of Bray Skinner at 125 pounds with a come from behind 4-2 victory over Joey Thompson as all four points for Skinner would come in the third and final period. The Lakers would then bounce back with a pair of open weight forfeits at 133 pounds and 141 pounds go up in the match 12-3 and add on a first-period fall at 149 pounds as Kase Givens would fall to number-six ranked wrestler Nicholas Moore.

Facing an 18-3 deficit, Jonny Crome would get Cloud County headed in the right direction by earning a fall at the 1:22 mark of his 157-pound match against Jett Nelson as an early takedown would allow the Marysville, Kansas native to turn his opponent and get the bonus points for the T-Birds. Southwestern Oregon would be open at 165 pounds as Cooper Mosier would get the forfeit win to bring the team score back to an 18-15 deficit for CCCC as Brandon Rohr would tie the dual at 174 pounds with a 3-0 decision over Jaycen Crisostomo. Rohr's scoring would come courtesy of an early second-period escape after starting in the bottom position and then add a two-point near fall in the third period to hold Crisostomo scoreless in the bout.

With three matches remaining, Cloud County would the 184-pound match go to the Lakers as 10th-ranked JR Scott would make quick work of Micah Sterling with a first-period fall to once again put CCCC in a deficit on the team scoring. Top-ranked wrestler at 197 pounds Zach Ferris had a response however in his first dual match of the year, taking a 4-1 lead in his bout after two periods and adding a two-point near fall and two takedowns before getting a fall with four seconds left in the match to once again tie the dual. The 285-pound match would automatically decide the dual with the team score tied at 24-24 as Emanuel Munoz Alcala would face off against Jayden Dobson. Neither wrestler would score in the first before seeing Munoz Alcala hit with a stalling warning on top position before eventually giving up an escape to go down 1-0. The third period would see another stall called on Munoz Alcala to make it 2-0 followed by a third stall call in the final seconds that would allow Dobson and Southwestern Oregon to advance in the bracket with a 27-24 win.

Against Iowa Lakes: Dual Results
Keeping things much closer than their previous two matches against Iowa Lakes, Cloud County would take an early 12-6 lead as the Lakers would have open weights at 125 pounds and 133 pounds before gaining back six points due to CCCC being open at 141 pounds. The first contested bout would come at 149 pounds with Givens taking on Dontae Johnson with a takedown nine seconds into the match set the tone for what would become a fall at the 2:29 mark of the match to give Cloud County an 18-6 lead. Crome would be next up at 157 pounds and would secure a major decision with a 13-1 victory over Cael Langford to finish his day 2-0 as the second-year freshman had a total of four takedowns in the match with at least one coming in all three periods.

Holding their largest lead of the day at 22-6, it would appear as though the T-Birds would be on their way to a win halfway through the dual, but Iowa Lakes would have a response starting at 165 pounds as sixth-ranked Mosier would manage to get outscored 5-1 in the third period as part of a 7-4 defeat to Dominique Johnson The upset victory would appear to give the Lakers momentum as ILCC would wind up with a second-straight decision by winning 3-0 over Rohr at 174 pounds before getting a 10-2 major decision at 184 pounds over Sterling.

Forced to try and protect a 22-16 lead with two matches remaining, the T-Birds would turn to top-ranked Ferris at 197 pounds who would face off against ninth-ranked Massome Endene for the second time this year. The first time around, it would be Ferris getting the best of Endene 7-5 in sudden victory overtime, but Endene would take the role of aggressor in Friday's match by scoring two first-period takedowns and going up 7-1 before earning a fall at the 3:29 mark of the match. Once again faced with the situation of the 285-pound match-deciding the dual, Ibrahim Ameer would get the nod to see his first action of the day against Ryan Johnson who had earlier taken on seventh-ranked Koby Johnson of Western Wyoming and lost in sudden victory overtime. Ameeer wouldn't have much luck against Johnson, giving up a takedown a minute into the match and being defeated by fall in the first period to allow the Lakers to earn the win.
