STERLING, Colorado — The Cloud County Community College volleyball team split its two matches during the first day of the 35th annual Pizza Hut Classic, hosted by Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado.
Cloud County (9-7 overall, 1-3 KJCCC East) got off to a slow start, falling in four sets to North Platte Community College, but rebounded Friday evening to take down Lamar Community College by the set scores of 25-14, 24-26, 25-21 and 25-17.
The duo of Fundaro and Chara would continue their strong Friday performances when Cloud County took the floor later in the win over Lamar as they each produced 14 kills apiece against the Lopes.
For Fundaro, the 14 kills were her second highest output of the season. She also added seven digs and two block assists in the night cap.
Freshman middle hitter Haven Hamilton helped balanced the T-Birds' attack as she added nine kills, while Miller had a career night with 40 assists on Cloud County's 49 kills.
Defensively, freshman defensive specialist Willow Hunt led Cloud County's back row with 12 digs, while Schroeder joined her in double-figures with 11 digs.
Fundaro, Miller and sophomore Britt Michaelis all chipped in seven digs in Friday's finale, as well.
The T-Birds will look to close out the Pizza Hut Classic on a high note on Saturday when they face off against Casper College (1 p.m.) and Western Wyoming Community College (5 p.m.).
Cloud County's match against Casper College will be played on the main court inside the Bank of Colorado Event Center.
