CONCORDIA, Kansas — A pair of former Cloud County track and field stars will be competing on a national stage this weekend as Kellyn Taylor and Benard Keter are each set to run at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships, starting Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa.
Keter, who was a standout for Cloud County in cross country and track and field in 2013-14, qualified for the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a mark of 8-minutes, 29.94 seconds.
He was the 2014 NJCAA national champion, and the 2016 Big 12 Outdoor Champion while at Texas Tech University, in the event. Keter will race representing the Nike/ U.S. Army team.
As for Taylor, she is set to compete in the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter races representing HOKA ONE ONE/Northern Arizona Elite.
Taylor was inducted into the Cloud County Athletics Hall of Fame back in January after a tremendous collegiate career for the T-Birds (2005-06) as a cross country and track and field athlete before moving on to Wichita State University (2007-09).
She still holds school records for the T-Birds in the indoor distance medley relay (12:38.33), 1,000-meter run (2:57.90), mile run (4:59.50) and outdoor 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:25.90).
The top three finishers per individual event are in line to qualify for the IAAF World Championships in Doha in late September and early October should they meet the world standard time or mark.
