KEARNEY, Nebraska — The Cloud County Community College wrestling team went 1-4 during Friday's Midwest Duals, hosted by the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
Cloud County's dual win came against Dakota Wesleyan University, edging the Tigers, 24-20.
"We were competing hard and lost a lot of close matches (Friday)," said Cloud County head coach, Cody Cole. "At times, we had some guys make a few mental mistakes and give up some points. We wrestling Nebraska-Kearney's reserves and were in a lot of those matches, but just made some minor mistakes. It was kind of the same thing in our loss to (No. 2 ranked) Northeastern Oklahoma."
Sophomore 157-pounder Ryan Delforge, currently ranked No. 8 in his weight class among junior college wrestlers according to InterMat, highlighted the afternoon for the T-Birds as he finished 3-2 on the day.
Friday's duals accomplished Cole's goals for the team of quality mat time against tough opponents. The T-Birds will now look to build off the lessons learned when they head off to the Northeastern Junior College Duals next Saturday in Sterling, Colorado.
"Getting that mat time right now is important so we can make sure, when we do get back in these tough situations during a match at the regional meet, we know what to do and we can make it count there," Cole said.
