CONCORDIA, Kansas — Following a breakout sophomore season, Cloud County Community College first baseman Erin King has landed a home for next season as she signed to play softball at Friends University.
King, voted a Second-Team All-District D player this past spring, led the T-Birds in hitting with a .385 batting average and 11 doubles.
The 2017 season was a major step forward for King, who transformed herself from a .213 hitter as a freshman to the most consistent bat in the T-Birds' lineup as a sophomore.
King doubled her RBI (16) and walk (8) totals while striking out just 12 times in 96 at-bats. She had 12 strikeouts in 47 at-bats in 2016.
The Wichita native also displayed sneaky speed on the base paths as she stole six bases this year, ranking fourth on the team.
Defensively, King led the T-Birds starting position players with a .958 fielding percentage as she committed just seven errors in 34 games.
King will join a Friends University program that had a tremendous 2017 season in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, finishing 33-13 overall.
