KENOSHA, Wisconsin — On a beautiful afternoon in Kenosha, Wisconsin, it was a Cloud County Community College runner leading the field to the finish line as sophomore Moses Dirane picked up his third event win this season at Saturday's University of Wisconsin-Parkside Lucian Rosa Invitational.
Dirane finished with a time of 26:10.9, nearly 30 seconds ahead of Indiana Wesleyan's Jesse Saxton in second plalce.
"Moses did a great job staying in control throughout the race," said Cloud County head coach, Drew Mahin.
Stephen Marindich joined Dirane in the top-10 as he crossed the finish line in seventh place with a time of 27:04.7. The sophomore duo helped lift the Cloud County men's team to a fifth-place team finish behind the likes of Davenport, Marquette, Wheaton and Indiana Wesleyan.
Freshmen runners Burke Deters and Longins Kouri rounded out the top finishes for the men's team with a pair of personal record times as Deters came in 30th place (2:57.56) and Kouri was just outside the top-50 as he finished 53rd overall (28"49.3).
"We still haven't put all the pieces together with the men's team with all runners having their best performances on the same day," Mahin said. "But we are coming closer each week. This weekend was a great experience for a young team to see new competition and gain confidence with about a month left in the season."
As for the women's team, the T-Birds received consistent performances from their three members as sophomore Thandeka Manzana finished 73rd overall with a time of 27:16.9.
Up next for Cloud County will be the Ollie Isom Invitational on Monday, Oct. 16. The meet serves as the T-Birds' final tune-up before the Region VI/KJCCC Meet on Oct. 30 down in Garden City.
