CONCORDIA, Kansas — Cloud County Community College sophomore co-captain Baptiste Bissessur made a dream come true Wednesday as the midfielder signed to play NCAA Division I soccer at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
"I am happy and proud of it. That was my purpose when I came to Cloud County," said Bissessur when asked about the chance to play NCAA Division I athletics. "Thanks to my teammates and my coach, I reached this purpose. Now I am ready to take on this challenge."
Bissessur added another perk of signing with UAB is the opportunity to pursue his Business degree at one of the top-ranked business schools in the country.
The native of Alsace, France produced a standout sophomore season for the T-Birds as, after not scoring a goal as a freshman, Bissessur ranked second on the team with seven goals this past fall. He'd also add three assists to finish the year with 17 total points.
His performance garnered him First-Team All-Conference and Second-Team All-Region honors after helping lead the T-Birds to a 13-4-1 overall record.
Cloud County head coach Charles Long said he believes Bissessur, who stands at 5'11 and has the versatility to play a multitude of positions, should transition seamlessly to the NCAA Division I level.
"He can play at the top level comfortably," Long said. "He has the skills and the mentality. He has the grades. He has the whole package. He is a big, strong and fast kid who is also very mature. He is going to do real well there."
