CONCORDIA, Kansas — The Cloud County Community College men's soccer team lost its first KJCCC West game of the season in heartbreaking fashion Saturday evening against rival Barton Community College inside Harold M. Clark Stadium.

With 18 seconds remaining in regulation of a 1-1 game, Barton freshman Damen Marcu scored from 15 yards out, just sneaking a shot past Cloud County's goalkeeper, Charles Albuquerque.

Albuquerque, the two-time KJCCC Goalkeeper of the Week, made a diving attempt to his left but fell just a few inches shy of making the save.

It was a tough loss for the sophomore netminder, who stopped 12 of the 14 shots he faced. The 12 saves were his second most of the season.

Cloud County (6-4 overall, 5-1 KJCCC West) came out strong, putting the game's first marker on the board with 24:25 remaining in the first half on a goal from freshman Djougher Oliveira, set up by fellow freshman Jean-Pierre Dasylva.

Barton (8-1-1 overall, 4-0-1 KJCCC West) pulled even in the 62nd minute, shifting the momentum to the Cougars' side as they controlled possession over the majority of the final 28 minutes.

The loss snapped the T-Birds' five-game winning streak. They'll look to begin a new one next Saturday when they head out on the road to face Hesston College. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
