Cloud County finishes ninth in Daktronics NATYCAA Cup standings

CONCORDIA, Kansas — Cloud County Community College athletics put a bow on a successful 2018-19 school year by finishing ninth overall out of 200 two-year colleges in the Daktronics National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Cup standings.

The NATYCAA Cup, sponsored by Daktronics, is in its 16th year of existence and is an annual report that shows how all two-year institutions rank in postseason results.

Cloud County finished with 91 points, ahead of New Mexico Junior College in 10th place (87), and is one of three Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference schools to finish in the top-10, joining Barton (2nd) and Cowley College (5th)

Colleges earn points based on their performance in each division's end of the season championship events. The winners of each championship earn 20 points, second-place finishes earn 19 points, third-place finishers receive 18 points, etc. Colleges use their top-five sports finishes per gender to accumulate points toward their division's cup standings.

Leading the way for Cloud County in 2018-19 was the track and field programs, highlighted by the men's team winning the program's first NJCAA outdoor national championship.

The men's track and field team also collected a third-place finish at the national indoor championships, while the Cloud County women's track and field team finished sixth nationally during the indoor season and seventh in the outdoor season, respectively.

Cloud County also picked up national points from men's cross country, which finished sixth overall at the 2018 NJCAA National Cross Country Championships, and in wrestling.

The second-year Cloud County wrestling program produced nine national qualifiers and its first two All-Americans en route to a 14th place finish at the NJCAA Wrestling Championships back in March.
